Specialist RYA Shorebased courses are run regularly from our classroom, but can also be provided for clubs and organisations at your own premises, or even on board your boat.
RYA Day Skipper Theory 40hrs over 5 days, or 20 week evening course
The Day Skipper Theory course is suitable for beginners and the experienced looking for a greater understanding of powerboating, motor cruising or sailing. It is recommended by the the RYA that the course is completed prior to RYA Day Skipper Practical and is ideal for those wishing to gain Advanced Powerboat certificates or Powerboat Instructors qualifications as these courses draw on the knowledge and skills learnt during the RYA Day Skipper Theory course. It is delivered through presentations and excercises designed to give you hands on practical experience of chartwork, passage planning, position fixing and much more, preparing those going on to take Day Skipper Practical courses. Classes are limited to 8 people as we feel the quality of tuition is increased, allowing instructors more time to interact effectively with students and dedicating more time to individual needs.

RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore Theory 40hrs over 5 days, or 20 week evening course
Anyone wishing to complete the RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Offshore will require this in-depth theory course. Building from the Day Skipper Theory the course builds on your existing knowledge to give you a much greater understanding and in-depth knowledge of navigation for both sail and power and acquire the skills for going further afield.
Both the 5 day intensive and evening course are kept to a maximum of 8 students ensuring that your instructor has plenty of time to dedicate to your questions and individual needs.
It is recommended by the RYA that the Day Skipper Theory course is completed prior to enlisting on this course as much of the course builds on knowledge learnt at Day Skipper level.

RYA Basic Sea Survival - 1 day Classroom and practical sessions - Minimum age 16 Do you know what to expect when you have to inflate your life raft?
The sea survival course gives a hands on experience of inflating and boarding a liferaft, fully clothed and with inflated life jackets giving you a real feeling for what you may encounter should you ever be in the position of having to leave your vessel.
A totally invaluable experience preparing you for a situation we all hope you will never have to face.
A one day course covering both the theory of sea survival and the practical application of the equipment you encounter - spare clothing is a must as you WILL get wet.

Being able to give essential first aid until emergency services can take over could save a life and with the added complications for rescue at sea the RYA First Aid course has to be considered one of the most invaluable courses you could undertake. Covering resuscitation, control of bleeding, treatment of an unconscious casualty and the recognition of hyperthermia, this is a key course for any sailor or boater responsible for crew or family wanting to ensure they can give the best possible care until the professionals take over. A one day theory course, the RYA First Aid Course is required by all RYA instructors and strongly recommended for all.

RYA Radar - 1 day No Experience Required
Radars are increasingly becoming a key part of powerboats, yachts and motorcruisers. The International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at sea state that if you have a radar onboard you must know how to use it. This course is designed to fulfil the requirements of this legislation and some categories of commercial work afloat, teaching the students how to use small boat radar to assist decision-making in navigation, pilotage and collision avoidance.
