International Certificate of Competence (ICC)
The International Certificate of Competence / ICC (often referred to as the "driving licence" for boats) is a requirement for anyone looking to use their own British flagged vessel, or hire a boat abroad. Although, some countries may have alternative requirements and it is always advisable to check their specific requirements. Also ensure you are gaining the correct level of ICC for the vessel that you will be using. If you are unsure the below document may help you, alternatively email or call us and a member of our team will be happy to clarify which course you require.
ICC's for powerboats can be gained either by the Powerboat Level 2 course or through a one day direct assessment. The direct assessment assumes candidates have experience in all elements covered by the Level 2 course, thus the day is an assessment only and not a course for instruction or tuition. It has been our experience that many have struggled with this later route.
