RYA Motor Cruising Scheme 
From RYA Helmsman courses for the beginner, to Day Skipper / ICC and Yachtmaster, our courses can be provided on your own boat or our school boat. Candidates looking to gain Day Skipper and Yachtmaster certification will find a distinict advantage if they have completed the RYA Day Skipper or Yachtmaster Shore-based course before their practical. The courses can be run back to back or on separate course dates to suit your schedule.
RYA Helmsman

Duration 2 days. Minimum Age 12yrs. No Experience Required
At the end of this course candidates will be competent at handling a motor cruiser in sheltered waters.
During your course you will cover - boat preparation, boat handling, types of craft, engines and drives, engine operation and maintenance, safety and seamanship, rules of the road, securing to a buoy, berthing alongside, and man overboard recovery.

RYA Day Skipper Practical / ICC

Duration 4 Days. Minimum Age 16yrs.
Experience Required - 2 days motor cruising. Basic navigation and helmsmanship. The RYA recommend that you attend the Day Skipper Shorebased Course before taking this practical course.
This four day practical course is aimed at giving the candidates the ability to skipper a motor cruiser by day in familiar waters.The course draws on your Day Skipper Theory knowledge putting into practice and covering - preparation for sea, boat handling, navigation, pilotage, passage making, meteorology, rules of the road, engines, emergency situations, night cruising.

International Certificate of Competence (ICC)
Minimum Age 16
The International Certificate of Competence is the certificaion required for the use and hire of boats abroad. The ICC can be gained through either direct assessment or acquiring the required level of certification for the category of boat you wish to use.
For the use of vessels falling into the cruising scheme candidates can apply for the ICC if they hold Day Skipper Certificates or on successful completion of the course. For those looking to gain the ICC through the direct assessment, the assumed level of skill and knowledge is equivalent to Day Skipper. Candidates looking to gain the ICC by direct assessment should be aware that this is run as an assessment only and due to the shorter period of time over which it is run it is not an instructional course.

RYA Coastal Skipper Practical
Duration Minimum 5 Days. Minimum Age 17.
Experience Required.15 days, 2 days as skipper, 300 miles, 8 night hours. Ability to the standard of Day Skipper practical and Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster shore-based course.
The Coastal Skipper course is designed for those looking to go further afield with the ability to skipper a motor curiser by day and night on coastal passages. Taking your existing knowledge and experience, the course covers passage planning, preparation for sea, pilotage, passage making and ability as a skipper, radar, boat handling, adverse weather conditions and emergency situations to the level required for night cruising.

RYA Yachtmaster Exam Prep
The Yachtmaster Certificate of Competence is a demanding exam and the accreditation is highly regarded world wide. There is no formal training course for the exam but many students undertaking the exam will take tuiton covering the exam syllabus in preparation, finding it highly beneficial in ensuring any weak areas are addressed and corrected before their exam.
